Elkins Wines are focused on two varietals: Riesling and Syrah. Why these two? Matt is a fanatic of Rieslings from both Claire Valley, S. Australia and Germany. The wines of Northern Rhône are fascinating, intriguing and captivating; He strives to create and emulate the style of wines from this region. The current vintages are sourced from sustainably & organically farmed vineyards in Northern California and the Santa Cruz Mtns. Future vintages releases will be sourced entirely from the Central Coast. The Riesling is fermented and aged in stainless and the Syrahs are aged in neutral oak.
”First and foremost, we are making wines that we like to drink. Not only because of how they taste, but also because of how they were made and what they represent. Made using sustainably grown grapes, our wines are made in a way that showcases vintage, varietal, and location. To achieve this, we implement a low-input style of winemaking that lets the fruit do the talking. The wines are then bottled unfiltered, with minimal sulfur, and without the use of fining or stabilizing additives.” ~ Matt Elkins
